Newark Artists Open Studios - just in time for the holidays!

by Arathi Satish

Come stroll through the studios of local and professional Newark artists during the 7th Annual Newark Artists Open Studios, Nov. 19 and 20.

Five studio sites will feature eight professional artists who will exhibit a range of artwork including jewelry, sculpture, ceramic wall murals, mosaic garden sculpture, oil paintings, pastel portraits, Japanese-inspired prints and a display of art by students of participating ceramic tile muralist/painter and participating artist Simone Archer.

For those interested in viewing artwork or purchasing unique holiday gifts, it's a perfect opportunity to walk through the studios of local Newark artists who have displayed their artwork in galleries throughout the United States.

The five studio sites are all within close proximity of each other, so it will be easy to visit each of the locations. Enjoy cookies and apple cider or sip on a glass of wine while chatting with the artists who will be on hand to demonstrate their techniques and share some tricks of the trade.

This is an opportunity to watch an etching press and printmaking demo at Adriane Dedic's studio, see artist Dmitry Grudsky create a mosaic sculpture, view an oil painting "in progress" by artist David Dunlap and see Susan Van Wambeck's portfolio of sketches in her studio, plus much more.

A preview exhibit featuring samples of works from each of the participating artists is currently on display at the Silliman Activity Center, located at 6800 Mowry Ave. The display will continue through Nov. 20.
