2005 Juried Photography Exhibitby Arathi Satish
The 12th Annual Juried Photography Exhibit is being currently held at the Fremont Main Library showing selected photographs through Nov. 23. City of Fremont Recreation Services assisted the Fremont Cultural Arts Council in this joint venture that features Fremont residents and photography club members.
This year, 206 photographs, submitted by 69 photographers were considered. Photos were judged on artistic merit, originality, difficulty and other technical aspects. Those interested in viewing an impressive photographic display will enjoy selected works such as Grand Canyon Sunrise, Sun and Sand in Australia, Three Pregnant Women, Scarecrow, Calla Lillies, Leap Frogs, Pink Rose, Wild Rose, India Gate detail, etc.
"Photography is not as hard as before due to digital cameras. Lots of people take good pictures. It is important to know the basic technical aspect and to be aware of composition while taking good pictures. The event helps the community to come together and have fun," said exhibit chairman Simon Chen.
The 2005 Award Winners are: first place - Pralay Dakua, second place - Douglas Stinson and third place- Julianne Howe.
Fourteen Merit Awards were given to Rick Brandt, Marcia Brandt (2), Nigendra Tiwari, Margaret Thornberry, Julianne Howe, Alvin Docktor, Kevin Fox (2), Douglas Stinson, Terry Dixon, Jason Cheng and Jenn Bioxsom. The People's Choice Award went to Terry Dixon. Merit and/or cash awards were given to selected entries.
