The FC Fremont Lightning, Girls U-13 Division 1 team had a very successful weekend Oct. 29 and 30 when they took second place in the Lodi Fall Classic Tournament. On Saturday, the Lightning won both of their games defeating Solano United by 5-1 and then Oakdale Inferno 2-0.
Playing aggressive offense against Solano United, Andrea Bonilla and Paige Diamond scored two goals each, along with Natalie Sanchez scoring one. All were assisted by Lauren Jauco and Janell Koide. The Oakdale Inferno was defeated that afternoon when Elisa Chen and Paige Diamond each scored assisted by Natalie Sanchez. Standout goalie work by Megan Kufeld saved several shots on the net. In addition, excellent defense led by Lauren Floro, Shannon Genberg, Deborah Blalock, Lica Monobe, and Alaina Gold held the Inferno to a shut-out.
Advancing to the championship match was decided Sunday morning when the Fremont Lightning beat the Tracy Cosmos 3-0. Natalie Sanchez scored two goals assisted by Lauren Jauco, Andrea Bonilla, Janell Koide, and Paige Diamond. In addition, Paige Diamond scored with an assist from Aubrey Lalumandiere. Lindsay Cole and Alex Drachnik also helped the Lightning reach the championship match against the San Ramon Storm. However, the Lightning failed to put the ball in the net, ending the final game 0-3, putting the Fremont Lightning in second place overall. Top players were Paige Diamond, Natalie Sanchez, Andrea Bonilla, Lauren Floro, Janell Koide, Lauren Jauco, Megan Kufeld.
