New sports center to break ground
A 32,000-square-foot sports center will soon be available for the enjoyment of the people of Union City. Located at 31224 Union City Blvd., this state-of-the-art recreational facility is being built in the city's historic Alvarado district. At a cost of $14 million, the projected completion is scheduled for December 2006. A groundbreaking ceremony will take place this Nov. 2 at 4:30 p.m.
The Sports Center will feature a 12,585-square-foot gymnasium to be used for volleyball, basketball, indoor soccer and other sports; a health/sports club wing featuring an aerobics/dance room, fully-equipped exercise room, and related shower, locker and restroom facilities; two classrooms, including a general meeting room one and a potential child care facility; a fully-equipped catering kitchen; and offices and utility rooms. The center will also be available to general community use as a rental facility for parties, receptions and special events, and for community meetings. |
