The FC Fremont Storm U10 - Div. 1 girls soccer club had a very successful weekend in Pleasanton, winning three of four games by shutting out opponents in the Pleasanton Soccer City Jamboree.

Fremont faced off against Elk Grove 96 Blue in Game 1. Fremont's Yvette Cuellar emerged from a two-team scramble near the Elk Grove goal to score at 4' of the second half. Two minutes later, Fremont struck again. Speeding and weaving the ball past defenders down the right sideline, Storm midfielder Roquell Martinez set up Shayla Funk in the center and Shayla's perfectly-timed kick secured a 2-0 Fremont victory. Storm outshot Elk Grove 13-2.

Fremont dominated MVLA in Game 2, 5-0, led by two first half goals by Nicole Stone. Roquell Martinez and Shayla Funk assisted. Marisa Padilla, Shayla Funk and Megan Massone also scored, with Storm outshooting its opponent, 18-1.

Game 3 was an exciting defensively-oriented rematch against a skilled PAC-United team from San Jose. The two teams met in the Danville Nike tournament two weeks earlier. Fremont matched up well, giving PAC a tough time. Trailing 1-0, Storm tied the game on Marisa Padilla's breakaway goal, at 7' of the first half. Shayla Funk assisted with her pinpoint lead pass that caught PAC off-guard. PAC led 2-1 at the half, but this was a 1-goal game until 18' of the second half. Fremont Goalkeeper Donna Wingfield had 10 saves in this game. PAC won, 3-1.

Fremont bounced back in Game 4, shutting-out a tough Solano Slammer team, 2-0. After 32 tense scoreless minutes, Marisa Padilla punched in her own rebound after a breakaway run for a 1-0 Storm lead in the second half. Megan Massone's lead pass assist set up the play. Marisa Padilla struck again at 19', assisted by Shayla Funk, and this was all the insurance Fremont needed. Fremont outshot Solano, 14-7 in this game.

Fremont defenders Janelle Herrera, Hannah Welker, Sabrina Singh and Roquell Martinez, along with Goalkeepers Donna Wingfield (18 saves) and Jocelyn Chiou (2 saves), were instrumental in shutting down Storm's opponents during the Jamboree weekend, notching three shutout victories in four games. Fremont's near-perfect midfield ball control offense was expertly executed by Megan Massone, Yvette Cuellar, Shelby Brown and Anna Martin.
