The Guy Emanuele Sports Fundby Reshma Yunus
The Fremont Education Foundation (FEF), a tax-exempt non-profit charity established in 1991, is providing grants to students who wish to participate in sports but lack the funds to do so. These grants will be made from the organization's "The Guy Emanuele Sports Fund", which is named after the fund's founder. The FEF raised $6,143 in November towards this fund, which included a $5,000 donation from Wells Fargo.
The purpose of the fund, according to FEF's Vice President, Dave Bonaccorsi, is to enable and encourage greater participation in school sponsored sports programs. The FEF will make grants of $100.00 per recipient, and according to FEF, an individual is eligible for more than one grant if he or she participates in a different sports. The grants will help to offset the cost of sports wear, transportation fees, tournament fees, equipment and other related expenses to students who want to participate in co-curricular sports but who need financial assistance.
Dave Bonaccorsi stated that the deadline for this year's application was going to be February 2, 2004. To obtain an application online, please visit the web-site, there is a link at the third paragraph on the home page. For further information, contact FEF.
