The Salvation Army and Mervyn's of Newark host an annual back-to-school shopping spree for disadvantaged children in the Tri-Cities community. The children receive brand new clothing, shoes, backpacks and school supplies. In 2004, over 80 volunteers assisted 100 children to shop for the new school year.

The success of the program depends on financial and volunteer support from the community. A special fundraising breakfast will be held Saturday, July 23, from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., for this program

For a $10 donation, your meal will include pancakes, eggs, bacon, coffee and juice. This event will be held at Beck's Steak and Seafood, 36665 Cedar Boulevard in Newark. Tickets will be available for purchase at the door.
