Presentations and Proclamations The first scheduled meeting for the month of June was cancelled, but the meetings are now back in order. The meeting began with the introduction of newly hired police officer Samuel Ackerman to the council and the city of Newark. Next, a commendation was awarded to Daisy Troop 1315, a group of 5-year-olds who have participated in the One Bear Project. This group donated their own beloved animals and other toys to be given to "small hands and hearts" who need a fuzzy friend. The troop leader, Mary Forrest and other troops were present to receive the commendation. Firefighter Maurice Baker has been named Emergency Medical Technician of the Year and was also awarded a commendation.
The 2005 Corporate Games awards were presented and the city of Newark won the Division I Championship, with the runner-up being Corporate Express. Over 475 participants from 11 participating companies took part in this year's event. The Division II Championship was awarded to GE Infrastructure and the runner-up was the Alameda Country Water District. Lastly, the Division III Championship was awarded to EMT Electromatic with Matheson Tri-Gas as the runner-up.
Newark police Chief Ray Samuels and Capt. Lance Morrison made a presentation about their experience participating in the AIDS LifeCycle 2005 bicycle ride. Samuels and Morrison rode along with others supporting the noble cause from June 5 through June 11 from San Francisco to Los Angeles. |
