Fuel for life
by Sara O'Brien
In an effort to boost blood collections throughout the summer, the American Red Cross Blood Services, Northern California Region is holding a series of special promotions as part of a "Fuel for Life" program. To kick off the summer, all Memorial Day donors providing "fuel for life" will receive "fuel for their mind" with a free ticket to The Universe Within: The Human Body Revealed, an educational exhibit comprised of actual human bodies and organs at the Nob Hill Masonic Center in San Francisco.
Beginning May 28, all donors will be automatically entered into three drawings: Fuel for your mind - daily drawings for a pair of tickets to The Universe Within: The Human Body Revealed (through August 20); Fuel for your car - weekly drawings for three $100 gas gift cards (through September 9); and Fuel for fun - grand prize drawing for a tour for two above San Francisco from San Francisco Helicopter Tours (randomly selected from all donors who come in between May 28 and September 9).
Every summer the blood supply for the American Red Cross dips to critical levels. Increased travel causes fewer people to donate during the summer, but it also increases the need for blood. The Red Cross wants to remind the public that blood donors provide fuel for life, and in return, some donors will receive fuel for their mind, for their car and for fun.
Prizes are not transferable or redeemable for cash. Potential donors must be at least 17 years old, weight 110 lbs. or more, and be in general good health. To schedule a blood donation appointment, please call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE (800-448-3543) or visit www.BeADonor.com.
