by Ray Pulver

An amateur float-building workshop is scheduled for Thursday, May 5 in the Mission Room of the Olive Hyde Art Center and Gallery at 123 Washington Blvd. from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

This workshop will provide information on float design, construction and parade day appearance. Ray Pulver, parade coordinator, will conduct the session, which is free and open to anyone interested in entering a float in this year's parade. Pulver has been involved with building over 50 floats, and has presented this workshop to numerous parade participants across the country.

With the theme, "Stars and Stripes Forever," this year's parade returns to the Mission San Jose District of Fremont on Monday, July 4. Beginning at 10 a.m., the parade will feature marching bands and drum corps, floats, balloons, specialty units and much more. Parade entry deadline is June 1.
