Let's Fly A Kite!
Mary Poppins' friend Bert had it right when extolled the virtues of kites. He sang,
When you send it flyin' up there
All at once you're lighter than air
You can dance on the breeze
Over 'ouses and trees
With your first 'olding tight
To the string of your kite
Your chance to soar in the air and dance on the breeze comes every year when Family Kite Day arrives at Sportsfield Park next to the Silliman Center in Newark. This year, activities begin at noon on Saturday, May 14 at noon. Music, kites, candy drops, magicians, games and much more will be back to celebrate the beginning of spring weather and the joy of flight. This year, the Newark Fire Department will cook hot dogs and hamburgers and the Soaring Center of Milpitas will be on hand with a hang gliding flight simulator.
Games, kites (supplies limited) and entertainment is free, so drop by for an hour or two and spend an afternoon with a kite that can "dance on the breeze" or just relax.and enjoy the festivities.
