Stage 1 Children's Theatre Open Call

by Joanne Engelhardt

Stage 1 Children's Theatre will hold auditions for its summertime production, "Bugsy Malone," on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 12 and13 at 6:30 p.m. at Newark Memorial High School Theatre, 39375 Cedar Blvd., Newark.

"Bugsy Malone" is a children's education production, directed by Belinda Maloney, who directed last summer's hit production of "The Jungle Book" at Stage 1. This year youngsters will play prohibition-era mobsters in this tongue-in-cheek tribute to the 1920s. Like the film of the same name, the musical includes a classic pie fight
fought with silly string instead of pies!

Auditions are open to children ages five through 16. Prepare a song from a Broadway musical of your choice, and bring sheet music (an accompanist will be provided). A Karaoke CD or tape can also be used. There will be a cold reading from the script and a short dance routine to learn.

Rehearsals begin April 25.

For more information or directions to auditions, call (510) 791-0287 or go to www.stage1theatre.org.
