The Fremont Elks Lodge has awarded six high school students scholarships totaling $5,600. One qualified for an additional $4,000 (or more) in the Elks national scholarship contest.
Six students from high schools in Fremont, San Lorenzo and Castro Valley have won scholarships in the Elks "Most Valuable Student" scholarship contest. These awards, totaling $5,600, are from the Fremont Elks Lodge and the Elks National Foundation. One student qualified for a minimum award of $4,000 in the national competition.
Each of the following students will receive $600 scholarships from the Fremont Elks Lodge: Edward Chang (Mission San Jose H.S.), Erin Gaab (Castro Valley H.S.), Kristine Lee (Irvington H.S.), Helen Lu (Washington H.S.), Megha Patel (Kennedy H.S.) and Anthony Scarper (San Lorenzo H.S.).
Erin Gaab and Anthony Scarper won an additional $800 apiece from the ENF. Kristine Lee won an additional $400 from the ENF, and is currently competing in the national contest (a fourth place award, or possibly better).
The national winners will be announced on May 15 (details can be found on the website: www.elks.org./enf/scholars). The first prize is $60,000, second prize is $40,000, third prize is $20,000 and the fourth prize is $4,000. |
