Bay Area Youths To Perform at LOV Annual Gala

by Arathi Satish

Young artists in the Bay Area will perform theatre, dance, instrumental and vocal music at the 16th annual "Salute to Youth" gala sponsored by the League of Volunteers (LOV) and the Newark Art Council.

Vocalist Karen Joshi, a freshman at Logan High School, will sing the music of Hart, Sondheim, Porter, Mercer and other favorites. Peggy Peabody is directing the dancers of Ballet Petit. Some of the graduates of this school have joined prestigious companies such as The Royal Danish Ballet, The Royal Ballet of London and the Joffrey Ballet.

Well known trumpet player Thomas Banuelos, graduate of California State Hayward and a former winner of the Newark's Art Council's Music Scholarship has played trumpet in Brazil, France, Italy and Switzerland and will entertain the audience with Dixieland Traditional jazz along with the Section 7 band. Also included in the entertainment line-up is a delightful young group from Star Struck Musical Theater, under the direction of Lori Stokes. They will perform scenes from their latest production "Seussical" based on the tales of Dr. Seuss.
