LOV for the ArtsFundraising Event to Promote Art in Schools by Arathi Satish
The League of Volunteers (LOV), a multi-service nonprofit agency that was founded to fill a gap left by cutbacks in school funding, will hold their 14th annual "An Elegant Affaire" to raise funds to promote the Arts in School program.
The program brings multi-cultural and performing arts assemblies to schools in the Tri-City area. The organization sends a listing of various artists to the schools to choose from. LOV pays for half the costs associated with the program. Last year they held 96 assemblies in 31 schools, and entertained 30,238 children.
All three Tri-City Mayors, Bob Wasserman - Fremont, David Smith - Newark and Mark Green - Union City, will be honorary chairmen and Jan Vincent of JVA Business Services will be the general chairman. Councilman Steve Cho and wife Amy, Newark School Board members Janice Schaefer and Jan Crocker, Lowell Johnson, Leonardo Patti and Tom Miller will serve as chefs and have selected special recipes to make a fantastic evening of culinary delights. Fine wines as well as specialty coffees provided by Fremont Coffee Roasting Company will accompany the dinner.
Local singer Kathie Avery Davis will perform during the social hour and prizes donated by various participants will be auctioned off after the dinner.
"It is an evening of fine food and fun which will enrich the lives of our children," said Shirley Sisk, executive director of LOV.
