Candle Lighters Ghost House- Ghoul Gardensby Linda Stone
This year, the Candle Lighters organization is presenting Ghoul Gardens as the theme for the Ghost House at the 19th century Chadbourne Carriage House in Fremont. A tradition in Fremont for 35 years, the Ghost House is synonymous with family fun. The haunted garden will feature eerie scenes of graveyards filled with skeletons, apparitions and foreboding figures lurking in the dark. Along with the haunted house full of witches, goblins and ghosts, there will be a carnival featuring a midway of games and food booths. Known for their delicious caramel apples, it will also feature a country store with Halloween treats. The Candle Lighters is a non-profit organization of 130 volunteers who raise funds to distribute to community-based projects. This year they are sponsoring the Fremont Senior Center, Fremont Education Foundation, Tri-City Homeless Coalition, and Washington Health Care System. Proceeds will also benefit the Tri-City Free Breakfast program, Star Struck Productions, Irvington High School Visual Arts Club and Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG). Located between Chili's and The Elephant Bar on Fremont Boulevard at the Fremont Hub, the Ghost House will be open on Saturday, October 16 through Saturday. October 30. Hours are Monday - Thursday 6 - 9 p.m., Fridays 6 - 10 p.m., Saturdays 1- 10 p.m. and Sundays 1 - 9 p.m. On Saturday, October 23rd, there will be a Kiddie Parade at 3 p.m. Tickets are $2 for the Ghost House. For the little ones and those who are timid, you can request a "Good Fairy" to escort you through the house and keep the evil spirits away.
