City Council Meetings Streaming to a Computer Near You!

Staying current with technology, the City has added a new streaming video feature to its website providing the public with easier access to City Council meetings. Starting July 6, 2004, at 7:00 p.m., Fremont residents, and those in other locales will be able to watch City Council meetings live over the Internet from the City's website at

"Video streaming technology provides increased public access and places information at one's fingertips. Residents will no longer need to be at home to watch a City Council meeting," explains Assistant City Manager Lynn Macy. Archived meetings will be available online anytime day or night right on your desktop computer using a web browser and Windows Media Player, which can be downloaded for free at the City of Fremont website. Computer speakers are necessary to listen to meetings via the Internet.

Through the City's Information Systems division, the process of implementing streaming video has been low cost and easy, involving free software, a reasonably priced video capture card, and cheap PCs. Citizens are getting a lot of benefit for a very small investment.

The public is invited to watch the City's new streaming video feature at Meetings will also be archived on the City's website where people can quickly scroll through the archived video and find an item of choice. This is easily done by scrolling the "seek" slidebar below the streaming video. For those who do not have access to the Internet, the City and the Fremont Main Library will continue to offer a video (VHS tape) archive of past meetings.

On the 1st, 2nd and 4th Tuesday, Council meetings will begin at 7 p.m. On each 3rd Tuesday, Council meetings will begin at 4 p.m. (times may vary).
