The King of Day Camps....

Union City Leisure Services (UCLS) is now taking registrations for Summer Camp programs

The Tri-Cities area is an incredibly diverse community made up of residents with many different interests and needs. Union City Leisure Services has tried to meet those needs by offering a wide variety of youth summer camp experiences. The concept of summer youth camps is not new or innovative, finding a City that offers 10 dramatically diverse Day Camps is, however, extraordinary. Tri-City parents may choose from camps that focus on aquatics, arts, nature, skating, sports, or teens. Camps vary in price form $100 to $140 per week and include 1 or 2 field trips per week. Opportunities include:

Sports Day Camp for ages 7-12
Discover Camp (Arts focus) for ages 6-12
Hedgehog Camp for ages 5-7
Junior Lifeguard Camp for ages 11-14
Junior Leaders Camp for ages 12-14
Kids Sports Camp for ages 4-6
Marsh Hawk Day Camp for ages 8-11
Skate Park Camp for ages 6-12
Teen Camp for ages 12-16
Tennis Camp for ages 6-12

During the last ten years, Union City has transitioned from just a "commuter community" to a fully functioning City with over 70,000 residents and many new businesses. Like many Tri-city area families, Union City parents typically both work a 9 to 5 schedule must leave their homes at 7am to get to work on time in Silicon Valley, and return to their home at 6 pm. This reality has created a huge need for child-care from 7 am to 6 pm. During the school year, this need is largely met by local school Districts. During the summer, UCLS has met that need by providing a wonderful variety of summer camps.

Last summer UCLS averaged 322 Day Camp participants per week. At the end of the 2003 summer, parent Lorena Gonzalez commented that her daughter participated in four different Day Camps and that she loved the quality of each camp and enjoyed the incredible variety of opportunities. She further commented that: "Union City Leisure Services is the King of Day Camps."

Registration is accepted at the Kennedy Community Center, 1333 Decoto Road (489-0360), the Holly Community Center, 31600 Alvarado Blvd (471-6877),), and the Ruggieri Senior Center, 33997 Alvarado Niles Road (489-6629). For more information, please pick up a Union City Leisure Services Summer Activity Guide, visit our website at www.ci.union-city.ca.us, or call the centers listed above.
