Old Niles Flagpole Makes Way for a New Niles Flagpole
With the help of PG&E, the Niles flagpole, originally the mast of a sailing vessel, was removed on Friday, April 30. Considered by many Niles residents and businesses as the center of Niles, the wooden flagpole, erected in 1919 to honor those killed during WWI, had decayed and could no longer sustain the weight of a flag. Its replacement, funded by citizen and civic group donations, will be installed and dedicated on Saturday, June 12 at 10 a.m. at Niles Boulevard and I Street. |
