Stephen Hill Receives Eagle Scout Honor
Stephen Hill officially received his Eagle Scout badge and rank at a Court of Honor held on Saturday, February 14, 2004, in his behalf, at St. Joseph's Church in Fremont. Stephen, 16, is a Junior at Irvington High School, the son of Jan and Harold Hill of Fremont, and a member of Troop 199, in the Warm Springs area, Mission Peak District,of the Boy Scouts of America. His two-phased leadership project included clearing large palm leaf shards and debris from the creek just north of the Church in the summer of 2002 alleviating a fire hazard in the area, and building benches for the Dominican Sisters of MSJ in the summer of 2003.
Several guest speakers assisted during the ceremony including: Gary Louie, Scoutmaster of Troop 176; Curt Strommen, Assistant District Commissioner; Garrett Yee, Ohlone College Board of Trustees; and the Honorable Steve Cho, Vice Mayor, City of Fremont. Troop 199 leaders assisting during the Program included: Danny Rice, Greg Stephens, Sean Tregear, and Scoutmaster Henry Allen. Stephen has earned 26 merit badges and has been involved in scouting for eleven years. He is also active in soccer for the IHS Varsity team, and with FC Fremont.
