Irvington High School will Shine performing Once On This Island
This highly original and theatrical Caribbean adaptation of the popular fairy tale, The Little Mermaid, contains song and dance as Ti Moune, a peasant girl rescues, nurses and falls in love with Daniel, a young boy from a wealthy family. When Daniel is returned to his people, the gods who rule the island guide Ti Moune on a quest to test the strength of her love against powerful forces of prejudice, hatred and death.
Director Linda Jackson-Whitmore promises a spectacular show especially since representatives from the American Musical Theater will be on hand to rate the performance in a competition with other Bay Area high schools. There is also a chance that the cast will be asked to perform at Disneyland. This is a show that should not be missed!
Irvington High School is a theatre "magnet" school for the Fremont Unified School District and brings actors together from many schools. For this musical, the primary roles are Erzulie: Vanessa Simmons; Asaka: Krishelle Torres; Papa Ge: Kyle Padilla; Agwe: Austin Taylor; Timoune: Hillary Hodsdon and Daniel: Evan Boomer. A large supporting cast will be on hand as well.
