Vietnamese Student's Association competes in Mid-Autumn Festivalby Pamela Ly
On Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Mid-Autumn Festival, held at Yerba Buena High School in San Jose, James Logan High School Vietnamese Student Association's Talent Dancers took second place in cultural dance. The dancers clearly wowed the large crowd with their traditional, yet very contemporary dance routine infused with ballroom dancing.
Screams and shouts filled the theater where the cultural competition was being held as the boys marched their way onto the stage in sync with the movements of the girls. The girls wore bright orchid colored costumes and the boys wore black.
In addition to new beautiful costumes, the James Logan dance team also had new props: gold and red drums and small hats that complimented their dance number perfectly.
Dancers at the competition were Bao Linh Diep, Jackelyn Ho, Jennifer Hoang, Sirena Lam, Christina Nguyen, Hang Tran, Michael Hoang, John Luu, and Long Tran.
Not only did James Logan High school win honors for cultural dance, but they also took third place at the volleyball tournament held at Yerba Buena High School. Members of the volleyball team were Jackelyn Ho, Jennifer Hoang, Michael Hoang, Sirena Lam, John Luu, Pamela Ly, and Hang Tran.
Other James Logan participants in the cultural competition were Long Tran and Jackelyn Ho singing a sad love song and Bao Linh Diep, Jenny Le, and Phuong Trang bringing their three voices to harmonize in another song. In addition, the James Logan High School Cultural Jeopardy team was represented by Quang Thai, Hieu Tran, Thien Le, and Tien Doan.
