Three-Year National Science Fund Grant Awarded to Ohlone College
On Thursday, July 21, Ohlone College received notice that the National Science Fund (NSF) was awarding a three-year grant of $349,382 to fund a project, entitled "Learning Alliance for Bioscience (LAB)." This project, under the direction of Dr. Ron Quinta, Dean of the Science, Math and Technology division and Biotechnology faculty at Ohlone, will result in significant program development with high school teachers to create a science, math and technology based curriculum for high schools students. This curriculum will help high school students make a smooth transition into the Ohlone Biotechnology program as well as math, science, engineering and technology programs.
A special emphasis will be on outreach to under-represented students. Students from populations who have not traditionally sought degrees in math and science will be targeted to help them fulfill their potential.
The grant runs from Aug 1, 2005 through July 31, 2008. |
